HipHop in the Philippines
So, what is hipHop? Well it came from two words, first hip it means it's trending or it's new, or it's cool or whatever. Hop is movement,.. so Hiphop means movemement in what's trending. Or atleast that's how I defy it. =)
By the way, my name is Ian I'm Sociologist from Princeton, I'm currently leaving here in the Philippines doing my research on the Manobo tribe here in the Philippines.
So how's hip Hop here in the Philippines? It's pretty much accepted that it's divided into two classes. The Rich hipHop and the Poor hipHop. Back in USA people the average family scorns on hipHop,.. as if it was a decease or something. But in the Philippines bone thugs is actually listened to by rich kids and so as Snoop Dogg, Emenim and other rappers from US, they think it's cool and high class listening to these rappers. While listening on there local hipHop crew is considered "jologs" a Filipino slang for poor outcasts of society.
In the Philippines everything that's USA is suppose to be better, or cooler. Perfect example is rap music. The rapper from US talks about eating pork and beans when he was young and making it inlife. The Filipino rap's about the same thing....it's in tagalog. But Filipino's view it very differently.
