10.Michele Yeoh- Now she has to be popular, not that much Hollywood though. In USA you might come to know her from the movie "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" which garnered so much awards internationally but can you still remember her from the 1997 James Bond movie "Tommorow Never Dies" as Wai Lin. She is indeed Hollywood so getting worldwide attention won't be that difficult for her. Shes still very active in acting at the age of 48 her upcoming movie is the "The Lady" and she is one of the voices in "Kung Fu Panda 2"
9. Lucy Liu- Give me an Asian woman in Hollywood that is more popular than her. That's right none. "This beautiful “Angel” started her acting career when she was studying in the University of Michigan . In her senior years, she auditioned for a small role, but later, was chosen to play the lead character. From there, she decided to try her luck as an actress. From Michigan , she came to Vegas and started auditioning and worked at a food shop. In the popular mini series “Beverly Hills , 90210” she made a guest appearance. Her break came in 1997. She got to play the character of an Asian Lawyer, Ling Woo, in a TV series titled Ally Mcbeal. Her performance caught the attention of the audience and filmmakers. The year 2000 was very very lucky for Lucy. She landed with a role in the movie Charlie’s Angels that established her as an actress in Hollywood ."
8.Chao Yun-Fat- His first hit was in Asia in the 1980, called "The Bund" and it gave way to his career. How popular is he? Well he is Hollywood popular. He appeared in movies like "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" "Pirates of The Caribbean" and the epic fail "Dragon Ball" movie where he (In our opinion in top ten most) almost destroyed his career. Although he first started as a disappointment in Hollywood starring in the film "The Corrupter" which sucked he still gained momentum and stardom with his other films. Los Angeles times proclaimed him "The coolest actor in the world". Well his cool enough to make it in our top ten list. =)
7.Charice Pempengco- Ms youtube sensation herself the girl who shouted pyramid!!!! Why did she became so popular? Well honestly we don't know. We just had to put her here because she is popular. Popular enough to be a guess star in GLEE and have Oprah as her Godmother not just that. See her big eye glasses? It became a trend for teenage girls all over the world. After her hit single Pyramid the world was at a certain standstill about what she was about to do next. She got instant popularity and got the title "Pop Princes" a title Britney once had. Take note that big eye glasses is already a fashion statement in the Philippines. One of their national heroes wore one (Ninoy Aquino) and teen agers like her followed.
6. Rain- Real name Jung Ji-Hoon. He has the nickname "Usher of Asia" I don't know about that but he starred in "Ninja Assasins" a kick ass movie. He was in the Time Magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential People Who Shape the World of 2006.Would you believe that he was an introvert as a child and growing up he wasn't good looking so he was rejected in some TV projects but his talent and hard work paid off. His rise to fame started in 2004 and 2005. Eventually invaded the US box office hits with his movie Ninja Assassins (as Raizo) the movie was kick ass and will be having a sequel. Ei.. have you ever heard of Rainmania? Look it up on google.com. =)
5.Jet Li- Li Lianjie (born April 26, 1963), better known by his stage name Jet Li, is a Chinese martial artist, actor, wushu champion, and international film star who was born in Beijing, China and who has currently taken up Singapore citizenship. After three years of intensive training with Wu Bin, Li won his first national championship for the Beijing Wushu Team. After retiring from wushu at age 17, he went on to win great acclaim in China as an actor making his debut with the film Shaolin Temple (1982).
He went on to star in many critically acclaimed martial arts epic films, most notably the Once Upon A Time In China series, in which he portrayed folk hero Wong Fei Hung. His first role in a Hollywood film was as a villain in Lethal Weapon 4 (1998), but his first Hollywood film leading role was in Romeo Must Die (2000). He has gone on to star in many Hollywood action films, most recently starring beside Jackie Chan in The Forbidden Kingdom (2008), also with Mark Dacascos in Cradle 2 the Grave (2003) and as the titular villain in The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor (2008) opposite Brendan Fraser. He is set to star in the upcoming film The Expendables.
4.Osama Bin Laden- Like it or not he is Asian (Middle East is part of Asia). So how popular is he? Well his popular enough to make it in our number 4 list and number 1 in the International Police most wanted list. Also NBI, CIA and other 3 lettered agencies that the United States have. Every police officer, soldier, boy scout, security guard in the Western World wants to catch this son of a gun. He was a culprit in the 2001 world trade center bombing. That made America and its allies packing for war against Arab countries. His only in number 4 since almost every body in the Western World and Democratic Country wants him behind bars or in a body bag. BUT NOW HE'S DEAD SHOT BY THE U.S SPECIAL FORCES. WE NEED TO REPLACE THIS SON OF A GUN
3.Yao Ming- WHY IS HE FAMOUS
He was the No. 1 draft pick during the 2002-03 NBA season and has emerged as one of the Houston Rocket's most valuable players. His instant popularity in the NBA earned him enough fan votes to claim the starting center position on the Western team during this year's All-Star game. Due to his dominance as a defender down low and his 7'5" frame, every NBA player and their grandmother wants to dunk on him. What can we say? He's a popular guy.
Yao has already been featured in television commercials for companies including Apple and Visa, and has endorsement deals with the likes of Gatorade, Nike, and U.S. computer game company Sorrent. He has also signed a high-profile endorsement deal in Asia for telecom company China Unicom Ltd. In addition to all this hoopla, Yao has appeared on the covers of major sports magazines including Sports Illustrated, ESPN and Slam. Unfortunately to many injuries for the big guy he didn't make reach his full potential
2.Manny Pacquiao - Manny is one popular dude. In fact he so popular in the Philippines that when he fights there is 0, nada, none, no crime happens in the Philippines ZERO crime rate when he fights. The Philippines literally stops for a while when he swings his fists. Not convinced? Fine.. their is this Senator Reid from USA who was down in the poles, His team then figured that they need a famous guy to attract more votes then comes in Manny in just one endorsement in Las Vegas he flipped the tables around for Senator Reid. He won. He is an 8 division world boxing champion the only boxer who was able to do this. He is that good, some argue that he is the best EVER and he is indeed ASIAN.
1.Jackie Chan- Our number one is Jackie Chan. Everybody knows Jackie, he even has his own cartoon starring him (Jackie Chan Adventures). Did you know that he started as a stunt man in the early 1970. He even had a scene with the famous Bruce Lee where he was mugged by Bruce. He then had major success in the 1980 as a action comedian actor years later he entered Hollywood and continued his success. Still active and strong the 57 year actor still does most of his stunts. Don't believe me he holds "Most Stunts By A Living Actor". I'm pretty sure you and some random guy from the bookstore know him
HE IS NUMBER 1 BECAUSE EVERY PERSON THAT YOU KNOW, KNOWS THIS GUY. EVERYBODY KNOWS JACKIE =)
