What happens to bullies when they grow up?
I majored in psychology and this was my case study.
To find out surveyed 3 high school batches, class 2002, 1992 and class 1978 from 2 different schools.
Remarkably a vast majority of bullies and cool guys in high school did pretty well in their lives and the "losers" didn't do so well. But why? In the movies it's different losers win and turn out alright, unfortunately that's not the case in the real world. Here's why;
1. Getting what they want- Imagine this a bully kid get's lunch money from his classmate because he wants to, but other kids won't do that for the obvious reason that it's wrong. Now take that same attiture in a corporate setting, Mr.A works hard and deserves a promotion, but Mr.B (being the bully) also wants a promotion, Mr.B in some insane way takes credit for all the hard work and get's the promotion instead. Now that's wrong BUT THAT'S WHY THEY SUCCEED. In a nutshell they have what it takes to grind it out in the corporate world, and it was developed in childhood.
2. Cool guys- Cool guys and bullies roles sometimes overlap, cool guys are more sociable and in a study in Stanford University in 2004, popular kids are better liars than average ones. Not just that, they are better public speakers more out spoken and obviously more charismatic.
3.Losers don't stay losers- This is 2 edge sword, it's half and half. During one of conversation with class 1992, One person who was branded loser succeeded in life (he's part of google team) it's said that after high school he studied hard in college and eventually google discovered his talent. Now there are also some in class 92 who haven't had their first kiss yet. And are still losers working in cafeteria, now why this dilema? It's about compensation, some compensate by being successful in life and proving their worth they develop that "I'll show you attitude", and some just give up and accept the fact they are losers.
So if I were in you're getting bullied right now in school, don't think that things will be better in the future. Realistically speaking it won't, so you better what you can now to improve your situation, because the fortune favors the bold, unfortunately a lot of bold guys are also jerks.
